Report Of Alumni Meet Held On 20th December 2019.

IDEAS – Institute of Design Education & Architectural Studies, Nagpur organized the first Alumni Meet on Friday, 20.12.2019 in the Auditorium at IDEAS, Nagpur Campus. This year IDEAS became a decade old. To celebrate the ten years of IDEAS, Alumni Association of the institute decided to organise an Alumni Meet. Earlier many reunions were planned but this was the first Alumni Meet of the Institute. At 11:00 AM Alumni entered the institute dancing on the beats of Dhol.

Teachers & current students welcomed the Alumni with roses in the foyer. Even they joined the Alumni on the beats of happiness. After the registration & signing in on the reporting board, Alumni and teachers joined for high tea in the south courtyard. This was a meet and greet session. Alumni roamed around the institute as some visited the college after a long time, it was a nostalgic moment for alumni.

Some were strolling around the exhibition panels. An exhibition of alumni works was arranged in lieu of the Alumni Meet. Works of alumni was invited for this prior the meet and submission of 20 panels was received. The works received from the alumni was not only core architecture but also included works from allied fields. The Inaugural session started at 12:30 PM in the auditorium.

The program started with Saraswati Vandana & lightening of the Holy Lamp. A presentation about the Alumni Association was given by Ar. Amol Wanjari. He elaborated on the objectives of alumni association and anticipated initiatives.

This was followed by investiture ceremony. Prof. Milind Gujarkar, HOD installed the members of executive committee. As this was the first executive committee, the members were nominated by the Patron of the association, Prof. Abhay Purohit, Principal of the institute. Prof. Veepa Jariwala is the Coordinator of the association.

The members of the executive committee are Ar. Shivani Sharma (President), Ar. Srushti Tiwari (Vice-President), Ar. Amol Wanjari (Secretary), Ar. Aditi Pradhan (Joint Secretary), Ar. Devesh Chindhe (Treasurer), Ar. Sandeep Pathe & Ar. Nikita Chachada. They were welcomed by Prof. Gujarkar by offering a plant. Patron of the association, Prof. Purohit said struggle is beautiful in his address. He highlighted upon the responsibilities & role of an alumnus towards the institute.

Prof. Jariwala, Co-ordinator threw light on how grateful she is watching women grow in the varied fields with their knowledge of architecture and talked about women empowerment, a much needed agenda in the present day scenario. Prof. Gujarkar, HOD spoke about the wonderful decade at IDEAS Campus and brought out the importance of alumni association. Ar. Shivani Sharma, President of the association went back to her old college days while speaking about how IDEAS has made an impact on her life and how it is helping her in present day. She was also determined about the post she is given and is looking forward to put her best foot forward.

Senior professors of the institute Prof. Ajay Thomare, Prof. Ketan Kimmatkar, Prof. Rahul Deshpande & Prof. Sonaali Jattewar also addressed the gathering. Few teachers and Alumni too spoke to the gathering sharing their memories of the initial years of IDEAS.

Video message from alumni who couldn’t attend the meet were also played. An MoU was signed at the institute with Ar. Nisha Bothra’s venture Ocher36, which is about conducting workshops & programs for college students at Bastar, Chhattisgarh. Ar. Bothra is alumnae of 2012 batch and practices in Bastar exploring & promoting indigenous art and culture of traditional artisans who work with brass, wrought iron, bamboo, mud, etc. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ar. Nikita Chachada and the program ended with National Anthem. Comparing of the program was done by Ms. Krupali Thakkar, a student of fourth year. Later everyone proceeded for lunch.

A Forum on topic ‘Struggles in Architecture Profession’ was organised post lunch. It was moderated/ chaired by Prof. Milind Gujarkar.

Alumni and teachers discussed their perspectives during the forum. It concluded with Prof. Gujarkar’s remark that the title should be Success in Architecture Profession. Later in the evening after high tea, a treasure hunt, an informal event was conducted where the alumni were divided into the four groups.

Everyone enjoyed the activity and it gave them a chance to roam around in college, freshening up the past memories. A bonfire was also organised in the courtyard where alumni shared their memories and caught up with their friends. Few of them also attended the events of Fiesta, annual fest of the college. Some danced at the DJ. The Dinner was organised for the alumni and teachers at the south courtyard. Everyone was given a souvenir to remember and foster the day of First Alumni Meet 2019.

Perquisite is an attempt to create a virtual collection of outfits inspired by silhouettes of traditional Indian clothing with contemporary alterations.

Its called perquisite because it symbolizes the right to dress up and express an individual’s artistic self which should be termed beyond limits of society, their stereotypical thoughts related to clothing, gender and fashion in general.

Perquisite was made in collaboration with IDEAS college where Pranil Pelne – Cinematographer, Maithili Junankar – Head of Stylist and Makeup Department, Models including Minal Sarda, Sanjana Kinariwala, Shraddha Satpute, Aishwarya Gawande, Prachi Pansare, Aditya Piise, and onsite crew Pranika Bhange, Shivani Talware, Paresh Bhandarkar and Saksham Chandekar.

Sakha’s Collaboration With IDEAS Nagpur

Sakha, In academic association with Institute of design education and architectural studies (IDEAS, Nagpur) conduct the ‘The Nagpur Tale’ an educative initiative with an attempt to establish a Heritage Dialogue’ within the eminent Historian, Royal Descended, Professors of architecture, Eminent Practitioners, architectural students and the local craftsman who belong to the cultural lanes of historic pricinct of Nagpur.

The ‘Heritage dialogue’ is an initiative taken by team Studio Sakha, under the leadership of Ar. Sandeep Pathe (Conservation Architect and Principal Architect, Sakha) with an attempt to redefine the ways of conducting a heritage walk within the historic core of Nagpur city. The initiative aim to establish an interactive platform where people from multi-disciplinary knowledge background come together to share their point of view to witness and understand the significance of various historical premises of Nagpur. the event is managed by Team Sakha which comprises of Ar. Srushti Tiwari, Ar. Devesh Chindhe, Ar. Aakash Baraiya.

The academic certificates are being distributed to participants with the association of IDEAS Nagpur.
